Tamarindo

This week's post will be featuring Tamarindo Beach, one of my favorite places that I visited while I was in Costa Rica. Tamarindo is located in the Guanacaste province on the Pacific coast of the country. It is a three and a half kilometer stretch of white sand and warm water that seems to always have sunshine with temperatures around 90 degrees in the dry season. During May through October there is often a late afternoon rain shower which doesn't last long, and only makes the sunsets more extraordinary. During this "green season," temperatures average about 80 degrees.
In town, there are many shops and activity centers where you can sign up to do things like take surf lessons, ATV tours, or kayaking excursions. The shops that are located in Tamarindo are not stores that we would expect to see when we go to a vacation place in the United States. Most of them are where locals sell their handmade gifts and you get to see the unique products that they have to offer.
The picture above is one of my own photos that I took during sunset while staying in Tamarindo. We stayed in a hotel called La Laguna de Cocodrilo where we enjoyed the beauty of the beach. Hotels in Costa Rica are on a much smaller scale than we are used to and this one being an average size, only has 10 rooms. There are hammocks outside and while laying in them you can enjoy the howler monkeys swinging from the branches of the trees right above you. Here is another photo of mine that I took while relaxing on one of the hammocks.
Traveling to Tamarindo is not hard once you are already in Costa Rica. There is public transportation that is readily available and also very cheap. If you are not looking to go the route of public transportation, you can rent a car near the airport and take the 5 hour trip to Tamarindo. The other possibility is a short flight from San Jose to the airport located in Tamarindo.
I hope that if you are ever visiting Costa Rica that you spend some time in Tamarindo because the beautiful beaches and local cuisine that you can find here is something you will never forget!

Well this is Ryan Beebe, and as you know I went to Costa Rica with you. However, I chose not to go to Tamarindo and instead went to Jaco. If Tamarindo was anything like Jaco then I imagine that it was a great place to go on your free weekend.
Did you do any of the activities that were available in Tamarindo? I myself was too hungover to do anything productive while I was Jaco other than to go out and party. Well I'm glad I was able to read about one of the places I was unable to go while I was in Costa Rica. It definately sounds like a place I'll want to go when I go back. Gonna look forward to reading your future posts.

Costa Rica sounds awesome I wish I could have gone. When you were there what else did you experience that was fun? What is the culture like and how different is it from ours? Does everyone speak Spanish or were you able to speak English while you were there? Sorry about all the questions, but what was the town like you stayed in and also what were your classes like? Also did you have to learn in Spanish or were you classes conducted in English? When you stayed there did you see any other beaches or was that the only one you got to? Also another weird question, do a lot of people take flights to get to the other side of Costa Rica or do most people drive?

I've never been to Costa Rica, but from all that I hear from people who has travelled there, it seems like a wonderful place to visit. I know that you went to Costa Rica for study abroad, but what else made you want to study there? Did you stay at one central location and have classes there? I bet you had a lot of fun, but what was your favorite memory there? Did you take a lot of pictures? If you did, please update them here because I have no knowledge about Costa Rica and what the location looks like. The picture for the sunset is amazing and it is really making wish I was elsewhere, instead of here in Delaware. Next time you go, take me with you! I am really excited to learn more about Costa Rica because as you know, I love travelling and experiencing different places and cultures.
